About Us

Custom Iron Workers, Inc. was established by Monte and Nancy Mitts in 1992, primarily as a trailer repair/repaint shop.
We both have long and varied backgrounds with horses and the horse industry. Currently we are active Endurance Riders and raise Amonte and Arab/Amonte horses.
Since we travel with a mare and a stallion, we created the Safety Pen™ out of necessity, to suit our needs. The next problem was finding a strong, safe, comfortable trailer for ourselves and our horses. Unable to find anything that suited us, we took what we had learned from rebuilding other people's trailers and began CIW Trailers.
Our Diamond M Electrolytes, Set Right™ Stirrups and Saddle Pads, Mitts Bits™ and Stablegear items, were all created by us to suit our needs. As friends began asking to try our "stuff" we found ourselves making enough of them to justify marketing to a wider audience.
Since we know our products won't fit everybody's needs, we have begun offering a selection of other products you might find useful.

In the fall of 2000, Nancy Mitts established another business, Stablegear Tack.

Stablegear Tack Return Policy: Custom sized and/or special order products are non-returnable unless defective. Defective products will be repaired or replaced at Stablegear's discretion.
Sizing issues in the biothane tack are usually easily adjusted by exchanging a part of the item. I will do my best to keep my customers satisfied. I don't want anyone totally stuck with something they cannot use.
Any monetary refund agreed upon will be paid by company check.
I charge a modest 10% restocking fee for returned items, shipping charges will not be refunded unless the product was defective.

Our mission is to provide high quality, useful, and practical products developed for horse people, by horse people.

CIW Trailer Warranty: Our trailers are warranted against defects, due to normal use, in materials and workmanship in the framing and structure for 10 years. Paint is warranted against peeling for 3 years. Damage due to abuse, neglect, accidents, acts of God, or warfare are not covered.
All components covered under manufacturers warranty, if not expired, (i.e. axles,appliances,jack, tires, etc.) will be directed to those manufacturers. No further warranty is extended by us beyond those of the component manufacturer.
All warranty work will be done at Custom Iron Workers, Inc., unless written consent is obtained in advance. Transportation to and from CIW Inc. (if necessary) will be at the owner's expense.

2005
In the fall of this year we began the full time manufacture and erection of steel buildings. At this time we are not doing any trailer work.
